simply put: the new vladislav delay album is great. i definitely welcome his return to his grey area glitch/dub techno styling — first and foremost because i loved his early records the most and well, i’m not a sucker for novelty by default. even though he didn’t reinvent himself on vantaa there’s a healthy dose of freshness bracing his sound, ranging from articulated melodies to bringing the record to a mechanised climax with rolling 4/4s. the latter is also a remarkable change in delay’s applied dramaturgy: just think of anima, a record notable for culminating for its entire hour+ runtime just to end exactly where it started.
